Crowd-funding in Star Citizen is currently celebrating its 2nd Anniversary sale . One year ago, Chris Roberts gave backers and fans a chance to snag some virtual spacecraft. Last year’s event was a huge success, and as a result, it helped Star Citizen raise close to $5.5 million by the end of the week.
Ships on this year’s sale are priced in the hundreds of dollars, and have crowd-funded over $700,000 in the first 24 hours. Whether or not you consider this a worthy virtual investment, is up to you. Cloud Imperium Games, clearly states multiple times that this is not necessary to enjoy Star Citizen. It is a way to help support the game first and foremost. The Anniversary sale of 2014 is expected to out-shine last year’s in a big way.
A brand new concept sale will also be featured to only the most die-hard fans. One of the biggest capital ships, the Javelin, will only be available at the end the sale on November 28th. It will be in limited to 200 backers, for a whopping $2,500.
If you are unsure about your level of commitment, it would be wise to aim for a starter package. When purchasing a starter ship pack, you will gain access to the same basic functionality of the game, but at a discounted price. You will receive a lower-tiered ship for this deal, but the starter ships still offer plenty of versatility right out of the gate.
